Children Among 198 killed as Russia Attack Kyiv and Zelensky tells citizens ‘we will give arms’

Three children were reportedly among the 198 Ukrainians killed since Russia’s invasion started Ukraine’s health minister revealed today.

Viktor Liashko said that 1,115 people were injured including 33 children, according to operation data.

“I never thought I would be looking for medical armor,” Mr Liashko said.

It comes as heavy street fighting against Russian troops is underway in Ukraine’s capital city Kyiv as officials urged locals to take immediate shelter.

In a video message, Ukraine president Volodymyr Zelensky called on citizens to defend the nation amid attacks on the capital city.

“Anyone who wants to defend our country please come and we will give you arms,” he said.

Kyiv was struck by two missiles in the southwest areas of the city centre.

One of the missiles hit a residential building but Mr Zelensky has remained defiant stating: “We have withstood and are successfully repelling enemy attacks. The fighting goes on.”

Russian forces are now 30km from the centre of Kyiv, the UK defence ministry has revealed.

The UK defence intelligence added that Russia is yet to gain control of the Ukraine airspace, greatly reducing its effectiveness.
