Portugal played a goalless draw against Spain while Germany was pegged back three times by Turkey who secured a point with a late equalizer in a 3-3- draw in Cologne.
Christiano Ronaldo was denied his 102nd international goal when his shot went crashing against the underside of the bar early in the second half as Portugal drew 0-0 with Spain in a friendly in Lisbon.
Midfielder Renato Sanches went even closer moments later with a first-time shot at goal. Sanches also hit the bottom of the bar before running away to celebrate, only to see the ball bounce on the goal line without crossing it.
Spain dominated the first half, raining in 11 shots at goal in the opening 45 minutes, but it was Portugal who really should have taken the lead, with Raphael Guerreiro firing over from eight yards out.
The Spanish and Portuguese Football Federations also announced during the match that the two countries will launch a joint bid to host the 2030 World Cup.
Turkey came back three times to earn a 3-3 draw vs Germany in their friendly on Wednesday.
Kenan Karaman slotted in a stoppage-time equalizer after Luca Waldschmidt fired in an 81st-minute volley that had put Germany 3-2 ahead.
Turkey twice before had leveled, with both teams missing several regular players.
“We invited Turkey to score goals and again failed to hold on to victory,” Germany captain Julian Draxler said.
“We have to be more dominant. It is disappointing because in the end it is about winning and we did not succeed.”
