Nigeria: The Mastermind Of Foiled Abuja Bank Robbery, Ernest Ewim Finally Arrested

A suspected mastermind Ernest Ewim of the foiled Abuja bank robbery has been finally nabbed.

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command last Saturday arrested the suspect of the foiled robbery of a first-generation bank in the Mpape area of Abuja.

The suspect identified as Ernest, a bar man was arrested at his hideout by police detectives and he is currently being held at the command headquarters in Garki, Abuja.

Four suspects was earlier arrested by the police however one gang member was gunned down identified as Patrick during the operation.

On Tuesday, the Abuja Commissioner of Police, Bala Ciroma, paraded the robbers including a banker, Larry Ehizo, 30, Timothy Joe, 21, Princewill Obinna, 24 and Elijah David, 19.

One named Ehizo who allegedly drove the gang members to the bank said he was blackmailed by Ernest to carry out the operation.

David narrating how the failed operation was carried out said Ehizo informed the gang members that the robbery would rake in N7 million, noting that he gave them the assurance that only a few staff members would be working on the day of the incident.

David also explained that the banker administered an oat of secrecy on him before they went for the robbery operation.

The 19-year-old explained that they saw the policeman on duty sleeping, when they got to the bank premises adding that they tied him with an old sponge and walked to the banking hall where they also tied other workers on duty.

David revealed that, “The banker, Larry said to us that the job could fetch us 7 millionaire. After we entered the bank, we saw the MOPOL on duty sleeping, so Obinna pointed a pistol gun at him and we tied him with an old sponge. Larry told us that he would keep the other door open for all of us. “Larry and Obinna then later went upstairs with pliers to disconnect the cctv. On our way out, Larry shouted, ‘Ah, the MOPOL has escaped, then I ran inside and all of them scattered. I didn’t know what to do. The police fired tear gas on us.” David also aded that Ehizo tried to implicate his colleague after their arrest by the police.
