Matt McMullen the brain behind these famous dolls Drea Cooper and Zackary Canepari has come up with a new developing sex robot with artificial human intelligence that is set to hit the market next year which will be sold for about £12,000.
According to Mr. McMullen, the inventor of the RealDoll has since 1996 sold over 5,000 customizable, life-size dolls designed according to the body, skin, hair and eye colour tastes of the buyers. Mr. McMullen’s has gathered a small group that comprising of engineers that have worked for Hanson Robotics lab which are responsible for creating incredibly realistic humanoid robots.
These efforts are made by Mr. McMullen’s in order to make his new project, that he named Realbotix, which is an attempt to animate the doll a reality.
Firstly, Mr. McMullen is concentrating on developing undoubted artificial intelligence, also a robotic head that can open, close mouth and blink. Secondly, Mr. McMullen likewise is working on incorporating other emerging technologies, like a mobile app that can act like a virtual assistant and companion, with virtual reality headsets that can be used alone or with the physical doll.
One of the contests that Mr. McMullen envisioned and will have to deal with is the so-called uncanny valley which is, having something robotic that looks alive, but then again not totally convincing, and this can creep people out.
Mr. McMullen with Realbotix is trying to avoid that sense of weirdness by creating dolls like photocopies of people. He says the Realbotix head, can be attached to the existing RealDoll body and will be commercially available in two years, priced about $10,000.
He further said:
“I want to have people really develop an emotional attachment not only to the robot, but the actual character behind it – to develop some kind of love for this being.”
A well known researcher in this area has also said that he believes the onset of sex robots that are not simply passive but active partners will have an intuitive effect on human sexual behaviour.
The author of Love and Sex with Robots David Levy also said:
“We have already seen rapid changes in human relationships thanks to the internet, mobile devices and social media.
“The next major advance will enable us to use our technology to have intimate encounters with the technology itself – to fall in love with the technology, to have sex with robots and to marry them.”
It was revealed earlier this year that teenagers could soon be losing their virginity to sex bots.
